1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, smartphone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, remember your preferences, and provide information to website owners.

As well as traditional cookies, this policy also covers similar tracking technologies that work in an analogous way, including:

• Pixel tags and web beacons — tiny invisible images embedded in web pages or emails that register when they are loaded;
• Local storage and session storage — browser-based storage that works like a cookie but can hold more data;
• Software Development Kit (SDK) tags — code snippets loaded from third-party platforms (e.g. Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel) that may set their own cookies or use other identifiers.

Throughout this policy we use the word “cookie” to refer to all of these technologies collectively, unless we say otherwise.

3. How We Use Cookies

We use cookies for three main purposes, each described in detail in Section 5:

• To make our website function correctly (“strictly necessary” cookies — always active);
• To understand how visitors use our site so we can improve it (“analytics” cookies — set with your consent or, for UK visitors, under the UK statistical-purposes exemption, with a simple free opt-out at any time);
• To measure the performance of our advertising campaigns, build remarketing audiences, and track conversions (“advertising” cookies — only with your consent).

4. Your Consent and the Cookie Banner

4.1 How We Obtain Your Consent

Your consent choices are stored in a first-party cookie so that we can remember your preferences on return visits. You can change your choices at any time by clicking the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer of any page on our website.

4.2 Lawful Basis for Cookie Use by Jurisdiction

Our use of cookies is governed by different legal frameworks depending on where you are located. The same consent mechanism — the cookie banner and preference centre — satisfies the requirements of both frameworks simultaneously.

These cookies are essential for the website and enquiry form to function. Without them, services you have asked for (such as submitting an enquiry) cannot be provided. They do not require your consent under PECR or the Australian Privacy Act.

5.2 Analytics Cookies

These cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our website by collecting and reporting information pseudonymously. We use this information solely for statistical and service-improvement purposes — to improve our website and enquiry journey. These cookies are set with your consent or, for UK visitors, under the statistical-purposes exemption introduced by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025; in either case you can switch them off at any time via “Cookie Settings”. Where analytics data would also be used to build advertising audiences, we ask for your consent first.

6. Third-Party Cookies and Services

Some cookies on our website are set by third-party services. We do not control these third-party cookies, and they are subject to the third party’s own privacy and cookie policies. The key third parties are:

Where these third parties process your personal data as a result of cookies they set, they do so for their own purposes as independent controllers or, in some cases (such as the collection and transmission of data via the Meta Pixel), as joint controllers with us. We recommend reviewing their policies to understand how they use your data. We may from time to time use additional advertising networks (for example Microsoft Advertising, LinkedIn or TikTok); any cookies they set will be listed in our preference centre, this policy will be updated, and they will only be set with your consent.

6.1 Google Tag Manager

We use Google Tag Manager (GTM) to deploy and manage tags on our website. GTM itself does not collect personal data or set cookies; it is a management layer that controls when other tags (such as Google Analytics or the Meta Pixel) are loaded. Those underlying tags may set cookies — as described in Section 5 above. Our Google tags are deployed using Google Consent Mode, which signals your choices to Google so that its tags adjust their behaviour — including not setting or reading advertising cookies where you have not consented.

6.2 Meta Conversions API

In addition to the Meta Pixel (a browser-side cookie-based tool), we may use the Meta Conversions API — a server-side integration that sends conversion event data directly from our servers to Meta. Because this operates server-side, it does not itself set cookies, but it does involve the sharing of hashed personal data (such as email address or telephone number). This is described in our Privacy Policy (Section 6.3), which sets out its lawful basis. It is active only for users who have submitted an enquiry on our form. Where a Conversions API event would include values derived from advertising cookies (such as the _fbp or _fbc identifiers), those values are included only where you have consented to advertising cookies. You can opt out of this data sharing at any time using the mechanism described in Section 8.3, which is available to all users.

7. Managing Cookies in Your Browser

In addition to using our preference centre, you can control cookies through your browser settings.

Most browsers allow you to:

• See what cookies are set and delete individual ones;
• Block third-party cookies;
• Block cookies from particular websites;
• Block all cookies;
• Delete all cookies when you close your browser.

8. Additional Information for Australian Users

8.1 Cookies as Personal Information Under Australian Law

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), “personal information” means information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable. Device identifiers collected through cookies — such as your IP address, browser fingerprint, and advertising identifiers — may, individually or in combination, constitute personal information under Australian law, particularly where they can be linked to your enquiry record.

Accordingly, our collection and use of cookie data in respect of Australian users is subject to the APPs, including:

• APP 3 — Collection of solicited personal information: we collect only the cookie data reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy;
• APP 5 — Notification: this Cookie Policy, together with our Privacy Policy, constitutes our collection notice to Australian users;
• APP 6 — Use and disclosure: cookie data collected for analytics or advertising purposes is used only for those purposes and is not disclosed to unrelated third parties;
• APP 11 — Security: we take reasonable steps to protect cookie data from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access.

8.2 Consent Mechanism for Australian Users

The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) is a UK instrument and does not apply directly to Australian users. However, our cookie consent banner satisfies Australian Privacy Act requirements for the following reasons:

• It provides clear, specific notice of what data is collected, by whom, and for what purpose before any non-essential cookies are loaded — satisfying APP 5;
• It requires a positive, affirmative action (clicking “Accept”) before non-essential cookies are activated — satisfying the consent standard under APP 3 and APP 6;
• It provides granular choice (accept all / reject non-essential / manage preferences) so that consent is specific to each category of cookie;
• It allows consent to be withdrawn at any time through the preference centre — consistent with the Australian Privacy Act’s general requirement to honour withdrawal of consent.

Australian users therefore receive equivalent or greater protection through our consent mechanism as UK users, even though the underlying statutory instrument differs.

8.3 Advertising Audiences and Your Right to Opt Out

As described in our Privacy Policy (Section 6), we may upload hashed contact details of Australian enquirers to Google Customer Match and Meta Custom Audiences for advertising suppression and lookalike audience purposes. Although this activity uses server-side data transfer rather than cookies, it is related to our advertising cookie use and we describe it here for completeness.

Australian users have the right to opt out of their data being used for advertising audience-building at any time. You can do this by:

• Emailing moonierh@hotmail.com with the subject line “Advertising Opt-Out”. Include your name and the email address or telephone number you used when submitting your enquiry. We will remove your data from any advertising audience lists within 10 business days and confirm this to you;
• Using the platform opt-out tools listed in Section 7.1 above to opt out at the Google or Meta platform level;
• Contacting us to exercise your rights under APP 12 (access) or APP 13 (correction) if you believe data held about you is inaccurate.

Opting out of advertising audiences does not affect the processing of your enquiry or the ability of fulfilment partners to contact you about your energy comparison request.

8.4 Cross-Border Transfer of Cookie Data

Cookie data collected on BusinessPrices.net is stored on servers located in the United Kingdom and may be transmitted to third-party platforms (Google, Meta) whose servers are located outside Australia, including in the United States. These transfers are covered by our Privacy Policy Section 8 (Cross-Border and Overseas Handling of Information).

By consenting to non-essential cookies via our cookie banner, Australian users expressly consent to their cookie data being transferred to and processed in the United Kingdom and other countries (including the United States) for the purposes described in this policy. We rely on the exception in APP 8.2(b), and we expressly inform you that: if you consent, APP 8.1 will not apply to the disclosure; we will not be required to take steps to ensure the overseas recipient handles your information in accordance with the APPs; the recipient may not be subject to the Privacy Act or to a law offering equivalent protection; and you may not have redress under the Privacy Act if the recipient mishandles your information. If you do not wish this to occur, you can decline non-essential cookies via the banner or preference centre.

8.5 Complaints — Australian Users

If you are an Australian user and you have a complaint about our use of cookies or the handling of personal information collected through cookies, you may:

• If unsatisfied with our response, lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au or by calling 1300 363 992.

9. Cookies and Children

BusinessPrices.net is a business-to-business comparison platform and is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly use cookies to collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information via our website, please contact us at management@leadlabs.co.uk and we will take steps to delete it.

10. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use, the law, or our business practices. The current version will always be available at https://www.businessprices.net/cookie-policy/ with the effective date shown at the top.
Where changes are material — for example, if we add a new category of cookie or a new third-party service — we will re-display the cookie banner so you have the opportunity to review and update your preferences.
